PHONE NUMBER: The Medical Day Center at St. Mary's Hospital is an innovative care center aimed at providing quality care to ambulatory patients undergoing investigation, management and treatment as well as comprehensive patient / family teaching. Care is provided by a team of health care professionals. A link between the hospital and the community is maintained while keeping the patient in his/her home setting. The goals of the Medical Day Center is to decrease length of stay of admitted patients, decrease visits/overcrowding of the emergency room, provide alternatives to hospitalization, provide a lower cost alternative to inpatient admissions, decrease re-admission rate, reduce waiting list for inpatient care, provide follow-up care once patients are discharged, develop a liaison between the hospital and community services, and provide health education to patients/families. The Medical Day Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. It is located on the second floor, room 2333, and was renovated in 1999. The unit is staffed with baccalaureate nurses, a physician, an orderly and a secretary. The Medical Day Center provides four main categories of intervention: investigation, post examination observation, therapeutic interventions as well as care & teaching. Patients are admitted from the Emergency department, inpatient units, clinics, Family Medicine Center, physicians' private offices or CLSC's with an admission request form.
