The goals of the Medical Day Center is to decrease length of stay of admitted patients, decrease visits/overcrowding of the emergency room, provide alternatives to hospitalization, provide a lower cost alternative to inpatient admissions, decrease re-admission rate, reduce waiting list for inpatient care, provide follow-up care once patients are discharged, develop a liaison between the hospital and community services, and provide health education to patients/families.

The Medical Day Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. It is located on the second floor, room 2333, and was renovated in 1999. The unit is staffed with baccalaureate nurses, a physician, an orderly and a secretary.

The Medical Day Center provides four main categories of intervention: investigation, post examination observation, therapeutic interventions as well as care & teaching. Patients are admitted from the Emergency department, inpatient units, clinics, Family Medicine Center, physicians' private offices or CLSC's with an admission request form.
