CLINICAL QUALITY IMPROVEMENT UNIT
MANDATE
To promote quality in the institution.
To support, assist and facilitate clinical teams and councils in a process for quality
improvement that is systematic and project focused through the following activities:
- Establishment of global Quality Improvement goals
- Advise Program Managers and Clinical Chiefs on mechanisms to promote quality in their
programs
- Prioritize problems (based on the corporate vision)
- Assist with development of priorities, care maps, practice guidelines, and indicators
- Communicate Quality Management requirements and resources to programs
- Assist with implementation of recommendations
- Provide educational support to the members of the Quality Improvement teams on quality
improvement processes
- Provide educational support to clinical areas, Program Managers and Clinical Chiefs
- Establish and maintain links between the program' and council' Quality Improvement teams
- Assist with the evaluation and follow through of Quality Improvement projects
- Provides consistent direction for accreditation
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITY:
The Quality Improvement teams report to the Quality Management
Coordinating Committee. The Quality Management Coordinator is the Head of the Clinical
Quality Improvement Unit. St. Mary's Hospital has ten Clinical Quality Improvement teams.
Each team has a Quality Improvement facilitator / educator.
