The Audiology Department at St. Mary's Hospital is primarily a diagnostic service, providing information about disorders of the auditory system. The audiologist is the health care professional responsible for the identification, evaluation and remediation of hearing disorders. The principal functions of the department include differential diagnosis, counseling, recommendation of amplification and assistive devices and the evaluation of aided performance. Patients who wish to access this service require a referral from an otolaryngologist (ENT) or from a general practitioner or paediatrician (in the case of children). Ears should be clear of wax, dry skin or other debris prior to the visit. There is only one audiologist at St. Mary's and , as a result, there is a long waiting list. We serve patients aged 3 years and up. The department is located in the basement of the west wing in the Rehabilitation Services area (B270). It is most easily accessed by the Legaré St. entrance (Physiotherapy door). This department does not offer central auditory testing nor auditory brainstem response testing.
