2009-2010 Competition
“ErroMed training evaluation project,” by Marc Pineault and Maida Sewitch.
This study will evaluate the impact of the ErroMed training program on different aspects of professional practice at St. Mary’s. Findings will help in refining the methodology and to support an operating grant for external funding in order to replicate this study in other healthcare organizations.
"Is Control of cardiovascular disease risk factors better in immigrants not proficient in English or French when there is a professional interpreter?" by Ellen Rosenberg.
Some of Canada’s most recent immigrants with limited proficiency in English or French depend on a relative / family member to interpret during their visits to a doctor. This study will evaluate whether a professional interpreter is better for these patients who also have cardiovascular disease. Findings will help to refine the methodology before designing a similar study at a larger level.

"Discussions of complementary and alternative medicine for cancer in mainstream health care: perspectives of family medicine patients and physicians," by Dr. Maida Sewitch.
Maida Sewitch’s research project will address the views of family medicine patients and physicians regarding complementary and alternative medicine. This project was funded for an amount of $16,000.
"Do research participants give informed consent? - A pilot study," by Dr. Zita Kruszewski.
Zita Kruszewski’s research project will examine the informed consent process in order to determine what research participants understand, and where improvements can be made. This project was funded for an amount of $16,000.
