Couple and Family Counsellor
Couple and Family counselors, with a background in Social Work in the cancer setting, are here to help individuals, couples and families deal with a cancer diagnosis and its aftermath.
The goal is to minimize the levels of depression and other psychological distress for all family members, including helping children understand the illness.
Using a systemic perspective which considers the needs of the individual patient within the context of their care, family functioning and wider cultural or community network, the family counsellor provides therapy in a safe, confidential setting.
The family counsellor may provide support through psycho-educational tools, support groups, providing grief counselling and by suggesting local resources. They also may assist families by addressing end of life issues, grief counseling and bereavement follow-up.
