Description:
The Audiology Department at St. Mary’s Hospital is primarily a diagnostic service dealing with disorders of the auditory system. This is also a teaching department of McGill University, and as schedule permits, the University of Montréal.

The audiologist is the health care professional responsible for the identification, evaluation and remediation of hearing disorders.

The principal functions of the department include differential diagnostic testing, counseling, recommendation of hearing aids and other assistive devices as well as post-fitting follow-up.

Patients require a medical referral to access this service. Referral from an otolaryngologist (Ear-Nose-Throat Doctor) is preferred. Pediatric referrals for children 3 years and older are accepted.

Ears should be clear of cerumen and all debris at time of audiology visit.

The waiting list to access this department is long because there is only one audiologist in this hospital.

This department does not provide Central Auditory Processing testing or Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response testing.
